What if you had an automated process that was making you money while you sleep, travel, or just hang out with family and friends?
Well, it’s possible for any average person, and it’s called a funnel.
There is a specific funnel framework that has been tried and true for over 10 years that I’ve learned from my mentors, and I still use to this day that has generated millions of dollars for creators like you and me.
Today, I’m breaking the whole thing down step by step.
A funnel is the journey a new lead takes from discovering you to ultimately buying from you.
What makes it so powerful is that it can be automated.
They can be very complex with upsells, down sells, cross-sells, order bumps, and more.
-This funnel I’m going to show you that has made creators like you and me MILLIONS of dollars is incredibly simple.
Traffic can come from many sources (social media, YouTube, blogging, podcasts, sponsorships, affiliates, and paid ads).
Despite what you may think, you don’t need to run paid ads to get traffic.
Paid ads aren't some "magic bullet" that's going to bring you instant traffic despite what you hear online.
With so much traffic at your disposal for FREE, we as creators should leverage as many organic resources as possible.
And if you're thinking, “Don’t I need a lot of traffic to make my funnel work?”
NO! Obviously, more traffic is better, but you can start making money with a funnel like this even with a small amount of traffic.
It comes down to having the right offer for the right people at the right time.
If you want this to be more automated, I'd recommend a traffic source like YouTube or Blogging.
They're free and can be searched anytime, anywhere, to a massive audience.
I was making thousands of dollars from a tiny YouTube channel of only 200 subscribers by making content my audience was interested in and offering a freebie in every video.
The biggest marketing buzz term is “grow your email list!” because email is the best way to make money online.
But simply saying “Join my email list!” doesn’t sound very appealing. We have to offer our audience something valuable in exchange for their email address.
This is called a lead magnet.
Lead magnets come in many forms like pdf guides, checklists, templates, video/audio training, workshops, webinars, and quizzes.
A lead magnet has to be high value because if it isn't, people aren't going to be interested in your paid offer down the road. It's all about building trust.
And building a great lead magnet doesn't have to be hard, just ask this question:
“What is a persistent problem my audience faces and how can I quickly solve that for them in a short pdf or video?”
In order to access the lead magnet, they have to give you their email address.
After someone finds your content online, they need to be directed to a page to pick up your lead magnet.
That's where your landing page comes in.
Otherwise known as an “Optin Page” or a “Squeeze Page” because the only option on this page is to either give you their email address and claim their resource or leave.
But the question is, "What do you say on this page to make them want your lead magnet?".
Here’s a simple opt-in copy formula you can use for your lead magnet:
[PROBLEM]? Get my [SOLUTION] and [RESULT].
Here are some examples of what this can look like:
Can you see how this is much more compelling than, "Sign up for my newsletter!"
As soon as they opt in, a short series of emails is automatically triggered to add EVEN MORE VALUE.
Countless studies have shown that trust is built after 7-8 touchpoints on average before someone is comfortable with making a purchase.
Your content, lead magnet, and emails are working as touchpoints, so they need to be packed with value.
The beautiful part of this system is that this can all be happening automatically 24/7 even if you're not working!
I have a whole video breaking down this formula in more detail, but here’s a quick overview:
The back half of this sequence is all about selling your product. In these emails, we want to make sure that we’re linking to the next step.
The goal for your emails is to get them to the sales page. The goal for your sales page is to get them to buy from you.
There are tons of sales formulas you can find here are a few additional ones you can experiment with.
Here are some of the most popular:
The AIDA Formula (Attention, Interest, Desire, Action): Grab your audience's attention, create interest, build desire, and then call them to take action on your offer.
The PAS Formula (Problem, Agitation, Solution): Identify a problem, agitate it, and then present your product or service as the solution.
The 4 P’s Formula (Promise, Paint, Proof, Push): Make a promise, paint a vivid picture of what life could be like with your product, provide proof of its effectiveness, and then push them to make a purchase.
Remember, the key is to align the sales copy with your audience's needs and emotions BEFORE making an offer.
Over the years, I've tried most all of these and have put together a simple 5-step formula you can use to effortlessly sell your courses and coaching online.
It's filled with examples of what to write and where along with tips to help you up your copywriting game.
